A Stylebook alternative that does the cutting out for you.

Stylebook has been around for a long time and has loyal users. At the time of writing it is a one-time purchase of about $4.99 on iPhone. It is also very manual: you do most of the work of building your closet and your outfits yourself.

Some people like that control. Others like the idea of a closet app but never finish setting one up. Cotton is aimed at the second group.

Setup

The biggest difference is how long it takes to get your clothes in. In Cotton you pick up to 30 photos at once. Each piece is cut out on your phone with Apple Vision in about a second, several pieces in one photo are separated, and the real color is measured. Your clothes are never redrawn unless you choose Studio polish.

Stylebook’s manual approach gives you more control over each item, at the cost of time.

Outfits

In Stylebook, you build outfits by hand. In Cotton, Today gives you one outfit a day from what you own. Tap a piece to keep it and shuffle the rest. It favors pieces you haven’t worn lately, so you rotate through more of your closet.

Price

Stylebook’s one-time price is low and simple. Cotton is free up to 40 pieces with every feature. Pro removes the limit for $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $39.99 once. If you prefer paying once, Cotton’s lifetime option is there.

Both are iOS apps. Cotton has no account and no ads, keeps your closet on your phone, and includes Insights such as cost per wear for free.

What Cotton doesn’t do

Cotton has no Android app, no web app, no social feed, and no shopping or affiliate links. If any of those matter to you, one of the other apps here will suit you better.

Questions

Can I pay for Cotton once?+

Yes. Cotton Pro is available as a one-time $39.99 purchase for lifetime access, as well as $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. You can also use every feature free up to 40 pieces.

How long does it take to add my clothes to Cotton?+

Each piece is cut out in about a second on your phone, and you can add up to 30 photos at once. Laying a few pieces on the bed in one shot works too; Cotton separates them.

Does Cotton need an account?+

No. You open the app and start adding clothes. Your closet is stored on your phone and in its backup. The only time a photo leaves the phone is when you choose Studio polish for that one piece, and the server doesn’t keep it.

Does Cotton work on iPad?+

Yes. Cotton runs on iPhone and iPad.

Start with what you own.
