Choosing a closet app

What’s the best app to organize my closet?

It depends on your phone and what you want from it. If you’re on iPhone and want your closet set up quickly and kept private, Cotton is built for that: you photograph your clothes (up to 30 photos at once), each piece is cut out on the phone in about a second, and you get an outfit every morning from what you own. It needs no account and has no ads, and it’s free up to 25 pieces. If you’re on Android or want a social feed, Whering, Acloset and Indyx are worth a look; our comparison page lays out the trade-offs.

What is a good digital wardrobe app for iPhone?

Cotton is a digital wardrobe app made for iPhone and iPad. It uses Apple Vision to cut your clothes out on the device, Apple Weather to dress you for the forecast, and Apple Intelligence for Ask Cotton, so most of the work happens on your phone. It has a Today outfit, a week planner, trip packing, cost-per-wear Insights and a Home Screen widget. Free up to 25 pieces; Cotton Pro is $39.99 a year with a 1-week free trial, $6.99 a month, or $79.99 once.

Is there a private closet app with no account?

Yes. Cotton has no account or sign-up at all: you open it and start adding clothes. Your photos are cut out on the iPhone, and your closet, outfits and wear history are stored on the phone and in its backup, not on a server. The only time a photo leaves the phone is if you choose Studio polish for one piece, and that image isn’t kept. Cotton also has no ads.

Is there a free closet app?

Cotton is free up to 25 pieces, with daily outfits, weather, Insights and cost per wear included, and no ads. Cotton Pro removes the limit. Some other apps, such as Whering and Indyx, offer free closets with no item limit at the time of writing, so compare what each free tier includes.

Is Cotton on Android or the web?

No. Cotton is an iPhone and iPad app, and there’s no Android or web version. Whering, Acloset and Indyx have Android apps if you need one.

Outfits and styling

Is there an AI stylist app that uses my own clothes?

Cotton is one. Every outfit it suggests is built from clothes you’ve photographed, never from products to buy. Today gives you an outfit every morning, and Ask Cotton lets you describe your plans, like “dinner on a rooftop, might get cold”, then picks from your closet and says why. Ask Cotton runs on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence, so what you type stays on the phone. It’s 3 asks a day free and unlimited with Pro, on devices that support Apple Intelligence.

Is there an app that picks outfits based on the weather?

Yes. Cotton checks Apple Weather for your approximate location and picks warmth, layers and shoes to suit the forecast, then shows a one-line reason under the outfit, such as a light layer for a cool morning or boots for rain. You can also pick an occasion: everyday, work, going out or workout. Weather is optional, and your location goes only to Apple Weather.

How do I decide what to wear in the morning?

Make the decision smaller. Check the forecast, decide the occasion, then choose from clothes that fit both. A closet app can do that in one step: Cotton has your outfit ready each morning, as a notification and on a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget, built from your own clothes for the day’s weather. Tap a piece to keep it and shuffle the rest.

How do I stop wearing the same outfits?

Track what you wear and deliberately bring back what you haven’t. Cotton’s outfits favor pieces you haven’t worn lately, and its Insights show which pieces have waited longest and how much of your closet you wore this month, so forgotten clothes come back into rotation.

Can I plan my outfits for the week?

Yes. Cotton’s Plan tab shows the days ahead with each day’s forecast, so you can set an outfit for each day and save the ones you love. The free plan covers today and tomorrow and keeps 5 saved outfits; Cotton Pro plans the whole week with no limit on saved outfits.

How do I plan outfits for a trip and pack less?

Plan an outfit per day, then reuse pieces across days so the bag stays small: a couple of bottoms and one layer can carry most trips. Cotton Pro does this for you: give it the days of the trip and it builds a different outfit for each day from your own closet, reusing pieces, and gives you the packing list. Our packing guide has the manual method too.

Wardrobe habits

How do I make a capsule wardrobe with an app?

Photograph everything you own first, so you can see it all at once. Then mark what you actually wear, pick two or three base colors, and wear a smaller set for a month. Cotton helps at each step: fast on-device cutouts get your closet in, daily outfits test which pieces combine, and Insights show what you wore and what waited. Our capsule wardrobe guide walks through it step by step.

Is there an app that tracks cost per wear?

Yes. Cotton tracks what you wear and shows cost per wear in its Insights tab, free for everyone, alongside your most-worn pieces, the ones that have waited longest, and the share of your closet you wore this month. Cost per wear is the price of a piece divided by the number of times you’ve worn it.

Privacy, pricing and setup

Does Cotton upload my photos?

No, not by default. Cutouts happen on your iPhone with Apple Vision, and your closet stays on the phone and in its backup. Studio polish is the only exception: if you tap Polish on a piece, that one image is sent to be redrawn as a product photo, and it isn’t stored. Ask Cotton runs on the phone with Apple Intelligence.

How much does Cotton cost?

Cotton is free up to 25 pieces, with no ads. Cotton Pro is $39.99 a year with a 1-week free trial, $6.99 a month, or $79.99 once for lifetime access (US prices; Apple sets local prices elsewhere). Pro removes the piece limit, plans the whole week, packs for trips, gives unlimited Ask Cotton and saved outfits, and includes 20 Studio polishes a month. Free users get 3 polishes to try.

How long does it take to add my clothes?

Usually an evening for a typical closet. You can pick up to 30 photos at once, and each piece is cut out on the phone in about a second. Several pieces laid out in one photo are separated for you, and pairs of shoes stay together. Plain backgrounds and even light give the cleanest cutouts.

What happens to my closet if I get a new iPhone?

It comes with you. Your closet is part of your iPhone backup, so restoring an iCloud or computer backup on the new phone brings it across. There’s no account to sign in to.

What languages is Cotton available in?

Cotton is available in 50 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic and Portuguese.
